Abstract:
A temporal study with the help of landsat satellite image has been carried out to assess the degree of the geomorphic degradation of different deltaic features. History of water flow of Indus River System (IRS) in the scenario of water storage for power generation and strengthening of irrigaion system reveals that the massive water divergent in the upstream have caused severe imbalance in the equilibrium between the fluvial and marine hydrodynamics in downstream. The dominance of the marine hydrodynamic conditions has caused irreversible damage to the physical environment due to the rapid landward sea invasion. Based on the landsat data results, geomorphic features like coastal line, creeks' network system, tidally influenced area, course near the mouth of Indus River and Indus Canyon were found under the severe degradation conditions.
